Beautiful vintage Chinese export sterling silver based enamel container locket pendant depicting a girls face, the Yin-Yang symbol and a butterfly. Two coral cabochons are on each side of the bale. The pendant has a versatile design. It opens up and can be used as a photo locket pendant. It has an open work design and this would suggest that it could also be used as a vinaigrette, perfume or snuff box. People used to carry these snuff or perfume boxes/ pendant with a sponge soaked in vinegar or perfume just in case if they felt a bit faint. The smell of vinegar or perfume would help them. Both faces of the pendant have the same pattern. Minimal enamel loos, the locket opens and closes nicely. Some patina on it.
Marked SILVER inside. Chain is marked 925 on the clasp.
